If we consider the flourishing of large-scale urban centers with sophisticated planning and a distinct script, the Indus Valley Civilization, dating from around 3300 BCE, offers a strong case for very early complex civilization.

China, too, shows evidence of advanced Neolithic cultures along the Yellow River from around 5000 BCE. The first historically confirmed dynasty, the Shang, with its clear writing system, emerges later, around 1600 BCE.

Ultimately, trying to crown one as definitively "older" can overshadow the incredible achievements and parallel developments of both. Both China and India represent pillars of human civilization, each with a continuous legacy spanning millennia, each having contributed immeasurably to the world's cultural, intellectual, and technological heritage.

It’s not about who gets the trophy for being the "oldest" but about marveling at how these ancient cultures not only survived but thrived, evolved, and continue to influence the world today.
